Financial Assistance During Pregnancy: What You Are Entitled To

Facing an unplanned pregnancy is one of the most emotionally and financially overwhelming experiences a person can go through. If you are an Expectant Mother considering adoption, you may be asking yourself: How am I going to afford this? The good news is that you do not have to figure it out alone — and you do not have to carry the financial weight of your pregnancy by yourself.

At Abiding Love Adoptions, we believe that every Expectant Mother deserves compassionate care and practical support from the very beginning. Part of that support is making sure you understand exactly what financial assistance is available to you — because you are entitled to more than you might realize.

Expectant Mothers Do Not Pay Any Adoption Costs

Let’s start with the most important thing: Expectant Mothers do not pay any adoption costs. 

Every service provided to you through the adoption process — from working with our team, to legal representation, to counseling — is completely free. All adoption costs are covered by the Prospective Adoptive Family, managed and distributed through the Adoption Agency. You will never receive a bill for any part of your adoption journey.

This is true whether you finalize the adoption or decide to parent your child. Receiving support and exploring your options never obligates you to make any particular choice.

What Financial Assistance Can Cover

Beyond the cost of adoption services themselves, Expectant Mothers are entitled to financial assistance for the everyday expenses that come with pregnancy. This support is designed to help you stay healthy, stable, and as stress-free as possible during this season of your life.

Here is what adoption financial assistance can typically cover[1][2][3]:

• Housing. Whether you need help with rent, mortgage payments, or utility bills, financial assistance can help keep a roof over your head. If your current living situation feels unsafe or unstable, temporary housing options may also be available to you.
• Medical Care. All prenatal care, hospital delivery costs, and postpartum care are covered. If you do not have health insurance, or if your current coverage does not meet all of your needs, those gaps can be addressed through the adoption process. 
• Transportation. Getting to doctor’s appointments, counseling sessions, and other necessary meetings should never be a barrier. Gas reimbursements, rideshare assistance, and other transportation support are available to help you get where you need to go.
• Maternity Essentials. Maternity clothing, prenatal vitamins, and other pregnancy-related necessities can all be covered. Your comfort and physical wellbeing matter.
• Phone and Communication. Staying connected with your support network, your medical team, and your Adoption Agency is important. Assistance with phone bills helps ensure you are never out of reach when you need help.
• Counseling. Your mental health is just as vital as your physical health. Professional counseling services are provided at no cost to you, both during your pregnancy and after placement. Processing this journey with a trained counselor is a gift you deserve to give yourself.
• Legal Representation. You are entitled to your own Adoption Attorney, completely free of charge. Having independent legal representation means someone is in your corner to explain your rights, answer your questions, and make sure your interests are protected every step of the way.

How Financial Assistance Works 

It is important to understand that adoption financial assistance is governed by state law, and the rules exist to protect you. Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina — the three states where Abiding Love Adoptions is licensed — each have specific guidelines about what expenses can be covered and for how long.

In all three states, financial assistance is intended to cover reasonable and necessary expenses related to your pregnancy and recovery. Assistance typically begins once you are working with an Adoption Agency and continues through your pregnancy and for a period of time after birth, generally up to six weeks postpartum.

What Financial Assistance Is NOT

We want to be clear about something, because there is a lot of misinformation out there: you cannot be “paid” for placing your baby for adoption. 

No ethical Adoption Agency, Adoption Attorney, or Prospective Adoptive Family will offer you money in exchange for your child. Doing so is illegal in every state and is considered a form of human trafficking.

The financial assistance you receive is meant to care for you during your pregnancy, not to influence the decision you make about your child’s future. Your adoption plan should always be made freely, without financial pressure in either direction.
