It’s so easy to get distracted and to lose touch with your WHY.  It’s easy to drift.

I’m a water person. I love the water and I love watching boats. Living on the coast, I have had the privilege of experiencing the art of boating.  One of the most important pieces of equipment when boating is your anchor.  But when you boat in waters with strong currents, you need TWO anchors.

Your main anchor that keeps you from drifting away.   But your second anchor, or cross anchor, keeps your boat pointed in the right direction.  Without the second anchor, your boat circles around in that one spot. The second anchor allows your boat to stay steady, pointed in one direction.

Why am I talking about anchors on an Adoption Blog? It’s a New Year. So, I wanted to take a moment to introduce Abiding Love to those who are new to our Adoption Community who might be wondering who we are or what makes us different.

First thing to know about Abiding Love is that our Main Anchor is in Jesus.  Unequivocally and unashamedly—Jesus. So, what does that mean for us?  It means that every decision is rooted in our passion to serve Him and love like Jesus. That doesn’t mean that you will hear or see us “beating people over the head with the Bible” (this is said in jest), but instead, hopefully you will SEE Jesus in our actions. We believe that old saying “actions speak louder than words.”  So, when we are working with Expectant Mothers, Birth Parents, or Adoptive Parents we want them to see Jesus in the way we carry on in our day-to-day interactions.

Do we mess up? YES.  Which is why it’s so important for others to know our hearts.

Second, our cross anchor is our Mission. Our mission is to: (1) love Expectant Mothers and Birth Parents BIG and WELL and (2) to educate Prospective Adoptive Parents and Adoptive Parents to love their child’s Birth Parents Big and Well so they can raise an emotionally healthy Adoptee. Our cross anchor helps us to stay pointed in the direction of the mission we have been called to.   Simply put, our agency centers around the Birthmother, not Adoptive Parents.

There are MANY ISSUES that need to be addressed within our Adoption Community. Unfortunately, the “ick” factor is REAL in our community.  There are issues that are important and need to be addressed—but if an issue does not correlate with our mission, you won’t see us addressing it.  This is not because we don’t care or that we agree or disagree with that issue. It is simply because we, Abiding Love, MUST keep our boat always pointed in the direction of our specific mission at all times in order to keep our focus.

The truth is, we each have all been given many individual talents and gifts. However, we have not been given the same mission. So, if you see that we are not commenting on something, it’s probably because it doesn’t address our specific mission.  We strive to be as transparent as possible, remember we work with privileged information, so privacy is of the utmost importance. If you ever have a question or a concern, please contact us directly. We would love to hear your concerns, answers your questions and talk things out. We truly desire to listen and learn.

The bottom line is everything we do is anchored in Jesus. We are pointed in one direction: Loving Expectant Mothers and Birth Parents Big and Well.  It’s who we are. It’s our anchor and cross-anchor.
